Objective: Searching for a challenging career in the corporate communications field where social media and communication skills can be highlighted.
- Kelsey, who plans to graduate in May 2010, is a talented and driven student looking forward to her career in media relations.
- As a double major and honors scholar at James Madison University Kelsey has learned to prioritize and accomplish tasks efficiently. Kelsey is not satisfied with mediocre work and constantly strives to be the best she can be. This is evidenced by her consistent standing on the Dean’s List.
- Kelsey recently enrolled in a social media class where her interest was sparked in learning about new technologies and the benefits to corporate communications. As a result, she has chosen to research Twitter’s use in corporate communications for her senior honors thesis.
- Throughout her time at James Madison University, she has been involved in the Greek Community holding various leadership positions. As a sister of Delta Gamma Fraternity, she held the position of Vice President of Programming for two years. Through this experience she gained the ability to multitask, delegate, plan events, make difficult decisions, communicate and collaborate with various personalities, run efficient meetings all while staying on top of her rigorous coursework.
- In addition to her leadership within her chapter, Kelsey was elected to serve as the Vice President of Finance on James Madison University’s Panhellenic Council. This position required her to be professional, unbiased and thorough. As a member of the council she was able to marry her leadership experience and her creative skills when she helped start an inner beauty campaign, to encourage self confidence throughout the campus and community.
- As a member of the Greek community, Kelsey values scholarship, leadership, service, ritual and community. She constantly pushes herself to be a better person and a role model to others. This was highlighted when she held the position of Recruitment Counselor in 2008. It was her responsibility to educate and mentor women about the Greek community.

Relevant Experience:
- Kelsey has been working as a media consultant for Oticon, Inc. since December 2008. Her main responsibility is to edit and produce 10 minute vodcasts every two weeks. This is the program’s main page. Through the production of the vodcasts, it is necessary to collaborate with those involved in the process, however this is all done through a unique set of communication skills, as all are spread out across the country. Kelsey works closely with the Vice President of Audiology and Professional Relations in Northern Virginia as well as the marketing team at the companies United State’s headquarters in New Jersey in order to successfully keep this program running.
- In the summer of 2009 Kelsey was an intern for the Director of Communication at The University of Virginia’s School of Nursing. Worked hard to collaborated with the Director of Communication and co workers to produce weekly internal memo. This weekly project allowed Kelsey to develop her efficency, brevity, clear writing, as well as allowed he add a little creativity to a typical newsletter. The other main duty of Kelsey at the School of Nursing was to write and distribute various news releases to local media and nursing journals, many of which resulted in hits within various news pieces (including nursing journal, regional/local publications, Charlottesville news papers, and University news outlets). Developing press releases allowed Kelsey to interview many faculty members; interviewing demands a unique set of skills, which Kelsey developed as an intern. As a result of her interest in social media, Kelsey took on the task of maintaining a Twitter account. Finally, she spent her time at UVA’s School of Nursing redesigning publications and gaining an understanding for communicating with various publics.
Relevant Coursework: At James Madison University, Kelsey has completed courses in media writing, public relations, graphic design, public speaking, health communication, management communication, advertising, persuasion through communication, organizational communication, media and politics, advertising, employee communication, communication research and Web communication. Through these courses she has gained an understanding of speech writing, news and broadcast releases, newsletter articles, corporate communication and advertising campaigns, advertising campaigns, media kits, social media tools and design principles.
Technical Skills: Kelsey is skilled in Mac and PC processing, the Adobe suite of products, iMovie, Garage Band and Microsoft Office. Social media is something that also interests Kelsey, therefore she has experience making podcasts and vodcasts, as well as using Twitter, blogs, Facebook and YouTube.
Interests: Some of Kelsey’s favorite past times include traveling, skiing, going to the beach, walking her dogs, reading about fashion and design, going to museums, learning about new cultures, tasting ethnic foods and meeting interesting people.
